Scaling Circular Solutions for Education, Logistics, and Plastic Recovery

As The Plastic Flamingo Philippines (The Plaf) begins 2026, the first quarter has already marked a strong start in advancing our mission to tackle plastic pollution through circular, locally made solutions.

From increasing production capacity and launching new sustainable products, to donating school chairs and being recognized for our waste recovery efforts, Q1 2026 reflects our continued commitment to transforming plastic waste into meaningful environmental and social impact.

Plastic Recovery Milestone: Over 1.37 Million Kilograms Diverted

As of March 2026, The Plaf has diverted 1,378,264 kilograms of plastic waste since operations began in 2018.

This milestone reflects years of collaboration with partners, communities, and collection networks working together to keep plastic waste out of landfills, waterways, and the ocean. Through our growing recovery and recycling systems, we continue to prove that plastic waste can become a valuable resource when placed into the right circular economy solutions.

Production at Full Capacity

The first quarter of 2026 saw The Plaf operating at full production capacity, with a strong focus on manufacturing our Plaf School Chairs and growing inventory for our newly launched Circular Pallets.

Our PLAF School Chairs continue to address two pressing challenges in the Philippines: the shortage of school chairs in public schools and the growing problem of plastic waste. As of March 2026, 4,200 PLAF School Chairs have already been donated by our partners to schools across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, helping improve learning environments for students nationwide.

At the same time, we continue to scale production of our Circular Pallet, a durable and sustainable alternative to traditional wooden and virgin plastic pallets. Designed for the logistics and warehousing sector, the Circular Pallet is made from 100% recycled plastic waste and developed to meet real industry needs while reducing environmental impact.

Both products are made from our Eco-boards, which are themselves produced from recycled plastic waste, further strengthening our commitment to circular manufacturing.

Introducing the Circular Pallet: A Filipino-Made Innovation for Logistics

One of the key highlights of Q1 2026 is the continued rollout of The Plaf Circular Pallet, a product designed to support more sustainable supply chains in the Philippines.

Made from approximately 45 kilograms of recycled plastic waste, the Circular Pallet is built for durability and long-term use. It is:

  • Waterproof

  • Pestproof

  • Fire-resistant

  • Repairable

  • Designed with 4-way forklift entry

  • Suitable for floor stacking

  • Built to follow the EPAL 2 format

It supports a safe working load of up to 1,000 kilograms and a static load capacity of up to 5 tons, making it suitable for heavy-duty logistics and warehouse applications.

With this product, The Plaf continues to show how recycled plastic waste can be transformed into high-value industrial solutions that support both operational performance and sustainability goals.

Growing Circular Manufacturing Through rHDPE Granules and Eco-boards

Alongside our school chairs and pallets, The Plaf also continued regular production of our Recycled HDPE (rHDPE) Granules throughout the first quarter of 2026.

These granules help expand our recycling capacity and diversify our circular product line, supporting end-to-end plastic reuse and enabling more sustainable packaging applications. At the same time, we continue to invest in research and development to improve our recycling systems, increase production capabilities, and identify new opportunities for recycled plastic innovation.

We also sustained production of our Eco-boards in the market-standard 4-feet by 8-feet by 20-millimeter size, allowing us to serve a wider range of industries and applications, including construction and material solutions. Through both direct distribution and partner channels, we continue to make these circular materials more accessible across a broader market.

Creating Jobs and Strengthening Social Impact

The Plaf’s environmental mission continues to go hand in hand with social impact.

As of Q1 2026, The Plaf supports 50 employees, creating stable livelihood opportunities while investing in the well-being and development of our workforce.

Our employee support initiatives include:

  • Child Scholarship Program

  • Access to Health Services via HMO

  • Vaccination Program

  • Health Allowance

  • Extended Maternity Leave

  • Regular Training and Capacity Building

We remain deeply committed to the empowerment of women, equal opportunity employment, and building a workplace where sustainability and human dignity go hand in hand.

As our operations continue to expand, so does our commitment to maintaining a safe and productive workplace.

The Plaf continues to prioritize:

  • Regular safety trainings

  • Constant safety checks

  • Continuous facility improvements

  • Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Fire prevention compliance

  • Safety orientations for employees and visitors

By continuously improving our processes and investing in our people, we aim to ensure that our facility remains a safe, efficient, and empowering place to work.

Q1 2026 Highlights and Activities

CMA CGM and The Plaf Mark Global Recycling Day with School Chair Donation

A major highlight of the quarter was the strengthening of our long-term partnership with CMA CGM, a global leader in shipping and logistics.

With the renewal of this partnership, The Plaf and CMA CGM have committed to diverting 600 additional metric tons of plastic waste by 2028, supporting broader sustainability and carbon reduction efforts. The partnership also includes the donation of 1,500 PLAF School Chairs to public schools in Parañaque City over three years.

On March 18, 2026, in celebration of Global Recycling Day, The Plaf and CMA CGM donated 500 PLAF School Chairs made entirely from recycled plastic waste to three public schools in Parañaque:

  • Marcelo Green High School

  • San Antonio National High School

  • Masville Senior High School

A donation ceremony was held at Marcelo Green High School, attended by key stakeholders including:

  • Mr. Siva Thigambaranath, Managing Director of CMA CGM Philippines

  • Mr. François Lesage, Founder and CEO of The Plaf

  • Marie Fontanel

  • Representatives from the City Government of Parañaque

  • Representatives from DepEd Schools Division Office Parañaque

This initiative demonstrates how circular solutions can directly improve learning conditions for students while keeping plastic waste in circulation.

We also donated 31 PLAF School Chairs to Ciudad Nuevo de Naic National High School through our ongoing fundraising campaign, A Thousand Chairs of Hope.

In February, The Plaf exhibited at ProPak Philippines 2026, where we showcased our circular products to sustainability and manufacturing stakeholders. We were also honored to receive the Waste Diverter Award from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources at the 2026 EPR Recognition Program.

As Q1 came to a close, The Plaf also proudly celebrated Women’s Month, reaffirming our commitment to women’s empowerment and inclusive sustainability.

Looking Ahead

The first quarter of 2026 reflects The Plaf’s continued growth as a circular economy enterprise, transforming plastic waste into solutions for education, logistics, and industry.

As we move forward, we remain committed to working with partners and communities to reduce marine plastic pollution and create a cleaner, more sustainable future.
